Autumn Courses in Stained glass.

Feels like autumn announced itself in Manchester today, that or the rainy season arrived.

Autumn at my studio brings a range of colourful glass to play and make with.

I have a new Stained Glass Evening class starting on Monday 9th October – running for nine sessions. Suitable for complete beginners and those with previous experience. You can design and make your own stained glass pieces with my guidance and tuition. Class size 4 people.

New Introduction to Copper Foiling workshop

I decided to create a one day workshop for those who wanted to try their hands at Copper-foiling.

The Copper foiling technique, developed in the Tiffany Studios in the1890s, is ideal for decorative panels, sun catchers and mirrors as well as lampshades and other dimensional work. Copper tape and solder are used to create a seam joining the pieces of glass.

Commemorative Window – Rolls Crescent Primary School

I was commissioned to design a window to celebrate the live of a beloved teaching assistant who had been at the school for a long time and was particularly close to the year 6 pupils.

I came into school and worked with the children in year six to help them think about how they wanted to celebrate and remember their teacher visually within a stained glass window. I also gave them some understanding of how a stained glass window is constructed and brought in examples. We then over two session came up with design ideas, which I worked up into two designs, and the children chose one. Whilst I made the window I sent regular picture updates to show the process to the class.

Below is the finished window and some of the process, which is in a quiet open plan area and overlooks the schools main hall.
